HOW THE FRUITS KEPT IN A CLOSED BOX GET RIPENED?
When vegetables remain in a particular temperature, they splutter ethylene- gas. This chemical called as ‘ethylene’ gas makes the vegetables to ripe. The ethylene released by the vegetable, spreads around it. The vegetable ripens by breathing the gas. Even the breeze in the open air may sabotage the ethylene gas around the vegetable. So the vegetable will not ripe easily but, if you keep it closed, the ethylene gas remains congested there. Because of the spluttering of the ethylene gas more and more in the closed stage, the concentration of the ethylene gas will increase. So, the action of ripening speeds up and ripened quickly.
For ripening artificially, calcium carbonate is used. These chemical products activate with the moisture in the air and create acetylene gas. This acetylene gas works like acetylene. Thus acetylene induces to ripe the fruit quickly. But such artificial ripening is harmful tu health. That is this is banned in many places.
