SHAPE OF THE COINS:

SHAPE OF THE COINS

  • In olden days, the shapes of the 5p coins were in squire shape.  There were squire shaped coins in some other countries also.
  •  But nowadays, coins are in round shape.  There are reasons for this.
  • In ancient days, the value of the coin is the value of the metal, out of which it is made up of. Nowadays, 1 gm golden coin values equal to 10 gm silver coin.
  • But evil minded people cut the edges and put them in circulation.  In the squire-typed coins. Such thefts can be made easily. But it cannot be done in the round shaped coins, because it has no edges. If it is cut, it would easily be visible.
  • Besides, if the coins are squire or triangle- shaped, it would lose its measurement in due course of time.  As round shaped coins have no edges, it would not lose its measurement.
  •  In the public telephone booths, the machine was made in such a way to insert the round shaped coins. Because of this reason also, coins are in round-shaped.
  •  All the round shaped coins have same diameter. Thus, they can be inserted from any side so that the machines wound recognize.
  • Further, some drawings of some shapes would have been carved on the coins.  It is easy to do, if the coins are round. If they are squire of triangle. It cannot be carved easily.
  • Therefore the above- mentioned reasons are there,   for the coins to be rond.
