THOUGH THERE IS OVER-HEAT IN THE COOKER, THE INNER RUBBER RING DOES NOT MELT- WHY?

The rubber ring, which is also known as ‘Gasket’ is mostly made out of polymer known as Silicon, today.  Prior to this, a particular type of rubber was used for this.  Such type of rubber was capable of withstanding the highest temperature of 121*C.  As the melting temperature is  very high , it does not melt in higher temperature.
